What happens at the saliva POCT sample collection?

We perform the urine POCT sample collection using strict chain of custody procedures. Also, the collection is undertaken by trained and certified sample collection officers. In addition, identification takes place by obtaining official ID such as passport or driving licence, and written consent is obtained. The collection officer will record the analysis from the saliva device. If a non-negative result is obtained, and depending if authorisation is in place, they will send the same sample to the laboratory for analysis. A copy of the urine POCT saliva drug test result is provided at the appointment to the donor and organisation/employer, if applicable.

What drugs are tested in the saliva POCT drug test?

What are the limitations of saliva POCT drug testing?

There are many benefits in using this test. But there are limitations that you must take into account before deciding if this is the right one for your circumstances. These include:

• Laboratory drug testing is more accurate.
• False positive and negative results can occur. This is why we recommend laboratory analysis for all non-negative results from a saliva POCT screen.
• Urine POCT results are not legally defensible.
• Taking disciplinary action based on urine POCT test results is not advisable. Instant saliva drug testing is not legally defensible due to potential false positives or negatives. Laboratory confirmation testing must be undertaken before making any disciplinary decisions.
• The detection period is very short (up to two days). If you need a longer period of analysis, it may be worth considering urine or hair drug testing.
