Saliva POCT drug testing (oral-fluid drug testing) provides on the spot drug screen results. Also, it has an effective drug detection window for the average person of up to *two days. It is a popular choice for random drug screening in the workplace and is less invasive than urine testing. In addition, it is a cost-effective approach to drug testing with fast results. * Dependant on multiple factors.
When a drug is taken, it enters a person’s bloodstream and the drug is metabolised within the body. After this, what remains of the drug gets excreted out of the body. One method of excretion is through saliva. As a result, we can analyse the metabolites of drugs in the saliva.
First, the saliva sample is obtained and collected using a mouth swab device. The screen within the device is then activated by the collection officer. Results of the screen can usually be observed around 5 to 10 minutes after activation. Next, the collection officer will read and record the results on the chain of custody document. A non-negative result could be an indication that a metabolite of the drug group may be present in the saliva sample. In this case, and if authorised to do so, we will obtain a fresh saliva sample and dispatch this to the laboratory for saliva confirmation drug testing.
We perform the urine POCT sample collection using strict chain of custody procedures. Also, the collection is undertaken by trained and certified sample collection officers. In addition, identification takes place by obtaining official ID such as passport or driving licence, and written consent is obtained. The collection officer will record the analysis from the saliva device. If a non-negative result is obtained, and depending if authorisation is in place, they will send the same sample to the laboratory for analysis. A copy of the urine POCT saliva drug test result is provided at the appointment to the donor and organisation/employer, if applicable.
Instant saliva drug testing is a cost effective and prompt method of determining very recent drug use. Screening results are available within minutes of sample collection. Also, it is a popular testing method in the workplace. For instance, within industry and commercial organisations for random drug testing programmes.
