Nichola Lawton BSc (Hons) Bio Medical Science
Company Founder and Director
I started the company back in 2005 as a post graduate in Bio Medical Science from John Moores University in Liverpool. I started out with a laboratory in Liverpool and opened 23 DNA Clinics around the UK. My passion has always been to provide people with the best possible advice and support for the testing service they are looking at. I feel we achieve this by having a team of highly educated and dedicated individuals, who also believe in my values.
A lot has happened since 2005 and I have learned a lot as a woman in business. I am proud of what we have achieved, and it still gives me great satisfaction to give opportunities to graduates as they start their careers as young scientists.
I am very much a family person outside of the business. My passion is spending quality time with my family, reading and walking my 4 beautiful dogs!
Jemma Major BSc (Hons) Bio Medical Science
Quality Assurance Manager
My role at Crystal Health Group is Quality Assurance Manager. This involves a lot of technical knowhow to comply with all the accreditations that we must maintain! I graduated from John Moores University in Liverpool with a Bio Medical Science degree back in 2004. Since then I have worked in the Life Science sector in many roles including the NHS and Pathology, and a time living and working in South Africa.
I enjoy the technical part of my role within the company and learning about any new innovations within the testing industry. I also get a sense of satisfaction when we pass our external ISO and Network Rail audits, showing that all the hard work throughout the year has paid off!
Out of work, we have twins who keep us very busy. When we can, we head off to our cottage in South Wales to relax and attempt to wear the twins out!
Danielle Delos Angeles BSc (Hons) Bio Medical Science
Senior Clinical Advisor
As well as speaking to clients about the tests, a big part of my role is coordinating the commercial drug test results. I graduated from Manchester University with a Bio Medical Science degree. My science background has given me the skills I need to interpret results and talk clients through these when needed.
We also do a lot of drug testing for families in difficult situations. Giving advice and support about their results is the biggest satisfaction I get from my job.
Outside of work I have a passion for travel. The best place I have visited (so far!) is Singapore. I loved the people, the environment and the food, I look forward to going back there one day!
Amy Hindhaugh BSc (Hons) Bio Medical Science
Senior Clinical Advisor
I graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in Bio Medical Science. While I enjoyed the experience of laboratory work, I prefer the more personable side of working for a bio-testing company. I have the opportunity here at Crystal Health to work with a set of diverse clients. As a result, I get the chance to use my scientific expertise and experience on a daily basis.
The most satisfying part of the job is when I get to explain the science behind the tests we do. Also, I am still learning on a daily basis as the industry we operate in is innovative and continually improving.
I am originally from Newcastle, but now in Manchester. I love to travel, particularly going on road trips. Also, I enjoy playing rounders and the social aspect of the game. I was president of the university team for 2 years and I’m looking forward to joining a local team in Manchester at some point.
I joined Crystal Health Group as an apprentice. The support and standard of work I achieved throughout my business admin apprenticeship meant that my work was showcased in an Ofsted inspection at the college. I loved science subjects at school and I’m thrilled I get to work in an environment that is heavily science based.
I started within the results team at Crystal Health and have recently been promoted to the Clinical Advisor role. Sometimes we get difficult situations when parents access to their children is involved. I guess the most satisfying part of my job is when parents do get access to see their children after proving abstinence from drugs or alcohol.
Outside of work I am an avid Manchester United supporter. Another science connection is my love of forensic science. This is something I want to pursue a future career in. I also enjoy socialising with my friends on nights out in Manchester.
Clinical Administration – Team Leader
I completed my apprenticeship with Crystal Health in 2018. Since then, the company has developed me and I am now responsible for all the operations in the administration team. This includes booking in biological samples before they go in to the lab and preparing and quality checking all DNA results before they are released.
The latter is by far the most satisfying part of my job. Most DNA test results turn out with a happy ending, and it is great when I relay the results over the phone and make someone happy. This is especially the case when there has been doubt about the paternity of a child, but it is the result everyone has been hoping for. As such, there can then be no more doubt because of the science behind DNA testing.
In my spare time I love going to the gym and enjoy socialising with my friends in Manchester. Also, I am a big Manchester City fan and enjoy the rivalry with the other Manchester team!
